Hello My Wonderful Family,

I'm so glad to inform you that the Jones Family website ,

“The Family Express” is back up and running, new and

improved!  This website was created to help keep family

in contact with one another no matter how far apart we

are in distance.  Here is where you can take pleasure in reading about the latest news and updates regarding our family members.  Our website is not just where you can get the latest news about the family, but the latest news and current topics around the world.

Most importantly, it can't be done without YOU!   You have to notify us of those special moments.  Nothing is too big or too small, whether it's a birthday, special annoucements such as engagements, weddings, births, graduations, sports highlights, academia, performances, you name it, we want to hear about it!  All you have to do is go to to the top of the page and click on "Contact" to complete the form.  It's that simple!  If you have photos or videos please email them directly to verlenelittle@yahoo.com, or just call 202.446.6007.

Also, with the help of many of you, I've been working on researching our family ancestry. It's been an exciting and an eye-opening experience and I can't wait to share. In addition, I'm putting this information along with family photos into a coffee table book, coming soon the summer of 2016.

In addition, it's been so long since we've all come together for a joyous occasion that a family reunion is now in the making.  Click on the Reunion button at the top for the latest information.

Finally, browse around the site, take a look around, and make yourself at home. Hopefully it will bring you joy, plenty of smiles, and great memories.  Send a message in the contact section and let us know what you think.  We're open for suggestions, ideas, and comments.

Peace and blessings,

Verlene Beatty Little

Did you know.....

Cathay Williams was the one and only female Buffalo Soldier, posing as a man named William Cathay to enlist in the 38th infantry in 1866. She served for two years before a doctor discovered that she was a woman, leading to her discharge.

Journalist Ida Wells-Barnett refused to give up her railcar seat for a white man in 1884, and bit a conductor on the hand when he tried to force her. She was dragged off the train. She sued the railroad and initially won, but the decision was overturned.

Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman elected to Congress and the first black major-party presidential candidate survived three assassination attempts during her 1972 campaign.

The Greenwood neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, housed one of the most successful Black economies in American history. The area is, now, commonly referred to as “The Black Wall Street.” Most of the businesses and homes were burned down in the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921.  In a time when the entire state of Oklahoma had only two airports, six Black families owned their own planes. The average income for a Black family was well over what minimum wage is today. Dr. Simon Berry, who owned the bus system in Tulsa, recalls that in 1910 his average income was around $500 a day, according to reports from sfbayview.com.

The first Black professional basketball team “The Renaissance” organized in Harlem by Robert “Bob” Douglas. They were known to their many fans and admirers as “The Rens” and they’ve been called “the greatest basketball team you never heard of.” The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inducted the New York Renaissance collectively in 1963.

Diahann Carroll was the first black woman to be the star of an American television show in 1968 without having to play a maid or any other stereotypical role. Julia was a pretty big deal too, winning her a Golden Globe for best female TV star in 1969.

A Tribute to Family

I don't know when it started, or how it all began.
But God created families, as only our Lord can.
He was teaching what it means, to love, honor, and obey.
He wanted a strong bond, that we don't see too much today.
He wanted someone to hold us, and show respect for others.
He wanted someone who'd be gentle, and so he created mothers.
He wanted someone strong, a support filled with love.
And so he created fathers, sent from heaven up above.
Brothers and sisters came next, with that, an instant friend.
Someone to look up to, someone on who to depend.
When he put them all together, He was amazed at what he'd done.
He had created a family, Mother, father, daughter, son.
But look at the family, created by only two.
How many we've become, and all because of you.
We have a lot to be thankful for, the memories through the years.
The many times together, full of laughter, full of tears.
I don't know where we'd be today, if it weren't for the two of you.
To show us strength, support, and love, like only the two of you can do.
