John Chris Heard
John Christopher Heard was born on February 22, 1966 in Washington, DC. He was the oldest of three children born to Mary Gross Heard and Bobby Heard (deceased). He departed this life on August 15, 2010 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia surrounded by family and close friends.
John received his education in the D.C. and Prince Georges County Public Schools. He was a graduate of Potomac High School, Oxon Hill, Maryland. He was employed as a Parts Courier for Marten’s Nissan BMW and was later employed with Kaiser Permanente as a Medical Courier. He dedicated twenty-two years of service and was employed with Kaiser Permanente at the time of his untimely passing. In addition, he was a part-time Medical Courier for Lasership Inc. since 2008, after earning his class A CDL license with a 100% test score.
John was affectionately known as “Chris”, “Fats”, and/or “Taters” to his close friends. He was often described as a kind, generous, funny, hard-working man, and an overall phenomenal guy. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, and began riding with his parents as a young child. Growing up, Chris loved to play outdoors, and often built his own skateboards to ride with his brother and friends. At age fifteen, Chris earned his motorcycle license, and has participated in road trips with his riding buddies. As a young adult, Chris played football alongside his cousins and brother on the Air Posse team. He was an avid supporter of the Redskins, even though he had little hope in their actual return to the top of the league.
In 1986, Chris was blessed to meet Christine Beatty, his companion of 24 years, through his best friend and her first cousin, Bill. They spent every evening together after work, sight- seeing and taking in numerous movies. In 1988 they became the proud parents of their daughter Gerri Lorraine Beatty. Chris took on the responsibility of fatherhood without hesitation. He devoted his time to his daughter and made sure she had whatever she needed and more. Chris supported all of Gerri’s endeavors and was proud of her many accomplishments. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family, which included fun times at Tyson’s Corner, Georgetown, Houston’s Restaurant, and Bethesda Crab House, his favorite. The three referred to each other as “Doot” (Chris), “Neet” (Gerri), and “Noot” (Christine). Chris, Gerri, and Christine were always known to spend as much quality time together as possible, and were never hesitant about sharing hugs and holding hands. They took many trips together, and considered New York City a particularly enjoyable place to visit each year.
John had strong work ethics and with tireless energy he cared for his mother and helped raise his nephew Michael and niece Monique, loving them unconditionally. Chris had a special bond with any child he met. For obvious reasons children were naturally drawn to him, as he was a gentle giant. He also had a special bond and played a significant role in the lives of Zoie and Miles Little as well as Jamal and Justus Lawrence. He was affectionately known to them as “Uncle Daddy”, a well deserved title given to him by his niece Monique. The Heard household was a second home to Justus and Jamal. The boys would carefully watch Uncle Daddy get dressed for work and lace his boots. He often took the kids on movie outings, shopping, and sometimes just to go for a ride. He would often stop by to see Zoie and Miles unannounced just to bring them goodies. He made a big impression on the kids.
Chris was an avid collector of model cars, fine watches, and the best of colognes. Many colleagues and family members can recall the scent of his fragrance entering a room before he physically arrived.
Chris was well respected and will be missed by his family, friends, and the many employees of Kaiser Permanente and Lasership across the District, Maryland, and Virginia regions. He enjoyed life and impacted everyone he knew in an unforgettable way.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Gerri L. Beatty, devoted companion Christine Beatty, dear mother Mary Gross Heard, siblings Peter and Lisa, , and best friend Willie (Bill) Lawrence. His nieces and nephews: Monique, Bobbi, Mary, Mariah, Michael, and Myron, and a host of other family and friends.
